Actress Lindsay Lohan Did Not Have To Go To Jail
Hollywood, CA - July 27, 2010 - Prison Minister Marty Angelo announced today
that he believes troubled actress Lindsay Lohan did not have to serve any time in jail,
rehab or probation if she had taken him up on his offer back in 2007.
Angelo had first appealed to Ms. Lohan on
July 18, 2007, after her completion of her Promises Rehab stay, six
days prior to her arrest she is now incarcerated for. He again contacted
her on August
4. 2007 through her attorney of record,
Blair Blake. He offered to serve any jail or prison time Lohan was sentenced to if she was willing to enroll and successfully complete a 12-month faith-based residential treatment program.
"This is not about me serving Lindsay Lohan's jail sentence, though I would
be willing to if the judge approved," Angelo
stated, "However, I am trying to bring to light the seriousness of what Lohan
(or any other substance abuse sinner) needed then and still needs
now." Angelo continues, "I feel Lindsay needs 12-months in a
successful faith-based program where she can truly get a grasp on reality and apply some very important biblical principles to her life.
"Many of the programs I refer people
to are free-of-charge and have upwards of an 85% proven success cure ratio. The basic secular program costs at least
$25,000-$50,000 for only one-month of treatment and is lucky to claim 4% success.
"Lohan would be two years ahead of herself right now had she taken me up on my offer back in 2007." Angelo continued, "What she basically wound up doing was kicking her
out-of-control sinful behavior down-the-road and had it rear its' ugly
head again in 2010. You can not out-run sin. It eventually catches and
overtakes you with frightful consequences.
"I know the majority of people do
not like to call sin... sin. However, it is what causes most of our
problems. Therefore, we might as well learn to seriously deal with it. It
will not go away on its own... even if we re-name it by calling it a
disease." (See:
"It's called sin, doctor.")
Angelo again appealed to Lohan after Judge Marsha Revel sentenced the starlet on July 8th to 90-days in jail,
90-days in a drug-rehab program, and one-year of supervised probation (a
much more serious type probation than Lohan was recently sentenced to).
"All Lindsay Lohan has done is make things worse for herself and her family by not facing her problems head-on years
ago," Angelo continues, "I
again offered to serve her jail time if the judge so ordered.
Furthermore, if she proved to the judge she really wanted help, the 90-day rehab and one-year supervised probation sentences could possibly have been suspended."
Angelo also contents, "Lohan would not have needed my encouraging offer
to get her attention if she was serious about
recovery in the first place."
Angelo sent appeal letters to Lohan and defense attorneys, Shawn Chapman Holley and
Robert Shapiro and formally petitioned sentencing
Judge Marsha
Revel. All efforts again fell on deaf-ears.
"What a waste of time and money locking up Lindsay Lohan," Angelo remarked. "Jail will not change her.
However, it did save her life for the time being. She is basically there for punishment not rehabilitation. We all hope she sees the Light and forever changes her ways. However, I am convinced, prior to her jail sentence, Lindsay Lohan's behavior, actions, and attitude proved she was not even looking for the
'on-off switch' yet alone the Light."

Angelo appeared in court with Lindsay's estranged father, Michael Lohan when Lindsay was handcuffed and hauled off to jail. "It was sad to see this happen to her and her family when I knew in my heart that if Lindsay would have just pleaded for help none of this would have
happened. However, God does have a plan and purpose for everything."
Angelo continued, "I honestly believe Lindsay Lohan brought all of this upon herself and if she continues on this road she will just have to get use to seeing the inside of more jail and possible prison cells. She needs to get desperate in her search for help. Right now she is just suffering pure punishment and it gets even worse over time. It never gets better until you truly want to change.
"Just ask actor Robert Downey, Jr. It took numerous jail and prison
sentences until he learned his lesson. I pray he stays on the straight-and-narrow road to recovery. He is finally a positive role model to his peers
and his fans.
"How many drug addicted stars and
musicians are dead right now without having the opportunity of benefiting
from a jail sentence? Jail could have saved many of their
lives. It may not be the best place to learn... but it does nudge
you towards maybe wanting to change your ways. Many do...most don't.
However, being sent to jail or prison does saves lives. I always say it is
better than the morgue.
"The terrible part of this is the recidivism rate amongst inmates coming out of jails and prisons. In the State of California over 80% wind up locked up again within one year.
However, many also wind up dead from drug overdoses too. The statistics are stacked against Lohan making it this time
around if she seriously does not learn from this recent incarceration.

"Change needs to happen quickly for
Lindsay or she is in for more trouble and heartache. I seriously doubt if
a 90-day secular rehab program is going to do it for her. I hope so... but
the stats are against her. It is just not enough time and the wrong
modality and ... she has already been down that road and failed. Her
track record is not the greatest. She needs a completely different
approach.
"Thousands have changed their lives through faith-based programs. I know Lindsay Lohan would seriously benefit from
one too. I am praying God will continue to do 'whatever it takes' to convince her of that. I know through my 30-years experience in ministry, He does use jail and prison sentences as a humbling part of that
process. He has a reason and a plan for everything that happens both 'good
and bad' in our lives."
Angelo met up with Dr. Drew Pinsky at Larry King Live television studios after Lohan's sentencing and
they both agreed she needed at least one year of residential drug treatment to effectively deal with her many issues. However, Angelo insisted a faith-based program would be the key type
of treatment and not just another stint in a secular program. "So far," Angelo remarked, "Lindsay Lohan tried three unsuccessful attempts at basic
secular rehab. It is time to move onto a proven program."
Angelo recommended the following free programs in his letter to Lohan's
attorneys: Teen
Challenge for Women in Ventura California, the Walter
Hoving Home for Women in Pasadena California, the Refuge
Ranch for Women in Okeechobee Florida and the Eastham
Home for Women in Boynton Beach Florida. (See: "Teen
Challenge's Proven Answer to the Drug Problem" and/or "Treatment
Doesn't Work" and/or "California prison drug treatment called waste of money")
"These free programs
have proven track records," Angelo continued. "There is no
special star treatment, which is exactly what Lohan needs. Everyone
humbles down and gets real. There are no hot tubs, whirlpools, or lounging
at the swimming pool. These ministries have been
around for decades and the best part about them is not that they are
free-of-charge but that 'they actually do work'. No bells and
whistles... just 12-months of peace, joy and love utilizing proven
faith-based curriculum.
"If Lindsay Lohan (or anyone else
who desperately needs help) would enroll and successfully complete anyone
of these programs, her life would finally come together and she could
truly then go on to be the fantastic actress and woman she always dreamed
she would be. It takes a miracle, Lindsay. It takes a miracle.
These programs allow just that to happen. I beg you to try one."
